Torsion vs Extension Springs: Which Does Your Door Have?

Two different spring systems—each with different lifespan, safety and cost.

Torsion springs Mounted above the door on a steel shaft. Quieter, safer, longer-lasting (10,000+ cycles). Standard on modern doors.

Extension springs Stretched alongside the horizontal tracks. Older system, shorter lifespan, requires safety cables to prevent injury if they snap.
